Fellow Shadow Warriors,
If you haven’t already heard, the Shadow Warrior Association has commissioned a print by the artist, Stuart Brown, to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the 112th Signal Battalion (SO)(A). The print has been completed, and will be available during Shadow Week. If you are interested in obtaining your piece of history, we will be selling them at the Fort Bragg Club during the Tech Expo. You can pick yours up on Wednesday, 23 March, or Thursday, 24 March. The print is $60 for SWA members and $75 for BN members. For all others, the cost is $112.
For those print numbers that are in high demand (1-13, 35, 75, 82, 112, 175, 275, 375) we will be conducting a silent auction. Watch the site and the blog for more information on how to participate in the auction and when we will announce the winners.
Below is a sketch of the print.

If you haven’t checked it out lately, take a look at the members page for information on activities available to members during Shadow Week 2011.
From the President:
It’s time to discuss a little more 112th history:
Today we are all witness to history as the only Airborne Signal Battalion in the US Army welcomed its new commander on 17 June 2010. LTC Charles P. Daly joins a long line of Signal soldiers privileged to hold the unit colors of the 112th Special Operations Signal Bn (Abn). We congratulate LTC Daly and his family on their new command and wish LTC Sam Anderson and his family the very best in their future assignments.
Throughout the three years since the Constitution and By-Laws of the Shadow Warrior Association were approved and signed we have witnessed more history being made. A small group of very hard working people (usually led by a very tough Battalion Commander’s wife) are writing history by making the annual Shadow Warrior Week a resounding success. Their ability to manage a first rate Technology Expo, Golf Tournament and formal Ball is testament to the selfless dedication of Special Operations signal community and their families.
The truly amazing element in this process is the fact that these events occur during a period of intense operations tempo for the battalion. The 112th has always held its reputation as the most deployed Signal Battalion in the Army. And, that reputation is reinforced today.
The next bit of history is my recent discovery that the 112th Field Signal Bn saw combat in the First World War. According to the US Army Historical publication Getting the Message Through, (page 185): “In September 1918, Company D, 53d Telegraph Battalion, arrived in Vladivostok to provide communications for American troops in Siberia. The following month the 112th and 316th Field Signal Battalions, belonging to the 37th and 91st Divisions, respectively, went to Belgium to participate in the fighting in the Ypres district.”
Further research reveals that the 112th Field Signal Bn consisted of four companies and supported the 37th Infantry Division, commanded by MG C.S Farnsworth, in WWI.
While the First World War-era 112th may not share our official heritage they do share our unit designation. The accompanying photo, from the National Guard Archives, depicts a 112th soldier serving in France during World War One.
Remember, that every member of the Shadow Warrior Association is a part of the history of the 112th Special Operations Signal Battalion. Be Proud.

Fellow Shadow Warriors: we are closing-in on the main event of the year for our Association and the 112th Special Operations Signal Battalion (Abn).
The 2010 Shadow Warrior Week is scheduled for 22-26 March 2010. The week will kick off with the 112th Golf Tournament and a no host social on 22 March. The USASOC C4I conference will be 23 – 25 March and held in the same location as our tech expo on 24 – 25 March. We’ll finish the week with the 24th Annual Shadow Ball the evening of 26 March.
Last year’s Shadow Warrior Week was a huge success with the added significance of dedicating the 112th Monument at the Airborne and Special Operations Museum. We were privileged to have MG (R) Dave Bryan (first commander of the re-activated 112th), BG Palumbo (USASOC DCG), and COL (R) Lee Vanness (one the architects of the 112th concept) in attendance. Moreover, we were fortunate to have CSM (R) Ronnie McCan and CSM (R) A.C. Coley return to their 112th roots and support the week’s activities.
This year is your time to re-connect with the 112th and your fellow Special Operation Signal Soldiers. Go to the Airborne and Special Operations Museum and see our new monument. Come out for the Expo and attend the Ball. Remember, Shadow Week is your week, it reflects your history, your current accomplishments and our shared path to your future.
Keep an eye on the “Shadow Week” tab on this web page for further details.
